Yeah, the train to Paddington takes 25 minutes, but that doesn't mean everyone here is just killing time until they can afford to move to London. Reading's got its own thing going on - a properly diverse population, a university pumping fresh energy into the place, and enough bars and restaurants around the Oracle and Broad Street to keep anyone busy on a weekend.
The casual dating scene benefits massively from this mix. You've got students in Earley and Whiteknights, young professionals flooding into the new builds by the station, NHS staff from the Royal Berkshire, tech workers from the business parks, and families in Tilehurst and Caversham where not everyone is as happily settled as they look from the outside. Caversham across the bridge has a villagey feel but don't let that fool you - there are plenty of bored professionals up there with nice houses and empty evenings. Tilehurst and Woodley are more residential but full of people who'd love an excuse to actually do something midweek.
